I’m Told Our Attitudes Are More Important Than Our Circumstances. Perhaps We Can’t Always Control Our Circumstances, But Aren’t Our Attitudes Our Own Prerogative?

“My mouth is full of praise and honor to YOU ALL day long.” Psalm 71:8

Last week I read about a man who trained himself, upon waking up each day, to exclaim, “This is the day that the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Going to the breakfast table each day, he would say to his wife, ‘We’re going to have a great day today!”

Thus, he started each morning.

Thus, you can too. Our attitudes are more important than our circumstances. We can’t always control our circumstances, but our attitudes are our own prerogative. Remember the discovery made by the Holocaust survivor Vicktor Frankl? His family perished, his possessions were confiscated, his clothing was torn away along with all the comforts of life, and he endured the horrors of a death camp. But he discovered the one thing that cannot be taken from us – our right to choose our attitudes in any given set of circumstances.

BOTTOM LINE:

How wonderful to choose praise! How much better to say, “My mouth will honor you all day long.” There’s not a moment during the day when we should allow anything to interrupt the electrical current of praise that lights up our lives and makes us high voltage people. A breakdown there should be as rare and noticeable as a blackout in a major city.

Blind and aged prolific songwriter, Fannie Crosby put it this way:

O glorious song that all day long,

               With tuneful note is ringing,

I’m saved by grace, amazing grace,

And that is why I’m singing!.
